Snibbits of our week 8 in Amsterdam.Chase and his little buddy Jonathan.
This was a highlight of our week! A thanksgiving meal!Thanksgiving with our YWAM Amsterdam family.Excited about pumpkin pie! :)Our class had a few evenings we deemed “family game night” or movie night. The above photo was from a funny game we played one evening.
Shailo struggled with sickness off and on throughout our stay in Amsterdam. His asthma flared up quite often and unfortunately his nebulizer was ruined the moment we plugged it into the wall there. We did the best with what we had and he managed to fight off asthma and chest colds on his own, it just took twice as long!
My teaching for this week was on Active Listening. Here are a few notes I enjoyed:
Sometimes we don’t know how to deal with suffering and we speak out when we really should just be silent.
“When you accept as a simple fact that I do feel what I feel, no matter how irrational, then I can quit trying to convince you and get about the business of understanding what’s behind this irrational feeling. And when that’s clear, the answers are obvious, and I don’t need advice.
Irrational feelings make sense when we understand what’s behind them.
Perhaps that’s why prayer works, sometimes, for some people because God is (can be) silent and he doesn’t give advice or try to fix things. He just listens and lets you work it our for yourself.
So please listen and just hear me.”
